KC Named Among “America’s Favorite Places”

Just how cool is Kansas City? According to Travel + Leisure, KC is the “next capital of cool.”

In its annual “America’s Favorite Places – Most Underrated Cities” survey, Travel + Leisure says people are “seriously missing out on these 20 amazing cities,” including KC at No. 9.

For the survey, the travel magazine asked its readers and Kansas City locals to extol their hometowns or places they have lived in and know like the back of their hand. Readers ranked their cities across a range of categories – from the quality of the pizza to the friendliness of locals and everything in between.

Kansas City Locals

So what do Kansas City locals think is so great about our town?

According to Travel + Leisure: “Like Minneapolis/St. Paul, many Kansas City residents felt their Midwest location made it too easy to overlook. ‘Folks don’t happen by,’ said one. But with design-driven spots like Urban Provisions, locally roasted beans from Oddly Correct, and outrageously good barbecue from an actual, functional gas station, Kansas City is poised to be the next capital of cool.”

The barbecue spot the magazine highlights is Joe’s Kansas City, which operates in a Shamrock gas station at 3002 W. 47th Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas.

Travel + Leisure says travelers who are looking for the next “undiscovered, under-the-radar destination” will want to visit the following cities on its “Most Underrated” list:

  1. Louisville, Kentucky
  2. Phoenix, Arizona
  3. Columbus, Ohio
  4. Detroit, Michigan
  5. Tucson, Arizona
  6. Cincinnati, Ohio
  7. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  8. Greenville, South Carolina
  9. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  10. Fort Worth, Texas
  11. Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota
  12. Kansas City, Missouri
  13. Birmingham, Alabama
  14. Rochester, New York
  15. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  16. Grand Rapids, Michigan
  17. Cleveland, Ohio
  18. Indianapolis, Indiana
  19. Buffalo, New York
  20. Norfolk, Virginia

KC also ranks among the friendliest U.S. cities. In a December 2017 Travel + Leisure survey, “America’s Friendliest Cities,” KC earned a spot as the 16th friendliest city, out of a total of 20. But we are happy to know KC is underrated and cool, too.

Our team at Team Real Estate congratulates KC, but we’re not surprised that Kansas City has been recognized as friendly and underrated. We love the city we live, work and play in, and we thoroughly enjoy helping new and current Kansas City locals buy and sell their homes here. Our team works together to provide the best client-focused experience in the area. Like our fair city, we are ranked on a few notable lists, as well. For example, we are proud to be rated by The Wall Street Journal as the No. 9 real estate team in the nation.
